When designing print projects, the colour of every element needs to be specified using a CMYK or Pantone value (CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black – the ink colours used on a commercial press). However, in most cases, projects are viewed and approved on-screen on a RGB (Red, Green, Blue) monitor. Naturally, the client assumes that a project will look a certain way, only to have the printed result look totally different.
The best way to colour match and be confident of the end result is to view a printed proof.
Few and far between is the printer who will offer a press proof, so the next best thing will be a colour calibrated digital proof. There are many factors that can affect the final colour of your printed project, so keep this in mind when viewing your digital proof.
